Project Arktik is a short psychological horror experience where you, the player, become part of a larger, state-controlled experiment on "dream control", and the place you arrive to work at slowly becomes your prison.

I made this game by myself in a about 2 and a half months, (it could be less if not for my inexperience),  Most of the sounds, models, textures and animations are made by myself, those that aren't are from:

Sketchfab (models) ,

Freesound (audio) ,

AmbientCG (textures) and

Mixamo (animations).

Controls:

MovementW, A, S, D
SprintSHIFT
Crouch
CTRL
InteractE
AttackLMB

Update: Made the game a bit lighter, which was main "turn off" point for some players, i hope this "patch" fixes it;

Estimated playtime: 35 - 45 minutes

Veliko hvala!

Very interesting and atmospheric game. Really impressive plot. Congrats! ALL ENDINGS HERE:

Thank you so much for playing and uploading playthroughs of my game!

What a solid experience this was! Loved the whole game throughout and never had a singler issue. Except for overcomplicating the numbers thing lol. Made a video on it.

Also, Windows defender has been having false positive issues with random files from the internet as they are doing machine learning. The false positive is usually "Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml" I have this allowed in defender to prevent random games from being flagged. Figured I would let you know.

Oh thanks for letting me know! And thank you very much for kind words and playing my game on your channel!

What an incredible game! I absolutely loved the art style. The interlaced effect adds a kind of low-definition motion blur, which is really cool.

I did run into an issue with Microsoft Defender, but it was clearly a false positive since it didn’t flag anything after I extracted the files. I’d suggest compressing the game files in a ZIP format instead—this might help avoid the issue.

That might be the problem, I'll look it up a bit more, thanks for making video and playing my game!

Seems pretty good acording to the comments. But a virus is detected by windows defender.

(+1)

There isn't any virus in game files, I downloaded quite a few games from Itch and sometimes warning appears about "Unknown author, unauthorized software" etc., game file I uploaded is clean but I understand your concern, thanks for commenting.

It's not a lack of confidence. I download game from itch like every days. But last year I've got hacked (not from itch) and after that my pc got multiples viruses. So if my pc said "No" it's gonna be a "No". Pretty disabling for me but I'd rather safety that fun.

And just to had some more explanations, my Windows defender blocked the download, so I can't even have your game :(

So sorry it happened to you, internet is a nasty place sometimes and those hackers who live off leeching others are worst kind of people

The visual style of this game is superb! Such good PSX screen tearing and I love the halftone pixelated look! So cool :) Amazing work!

Thank you so much! I did my best to make it look as good as possible and I'm really happy you liked it!

Played the game, love the ambient, gives you the clasic vhs horror games vibe, and got a few jumpscares out of it, i get the story the game was aiming for, i like the idea, i reccomend playing in the darker room for the best experince cuz gamma is low but other than that it has potential , definetly reccomend playing this.

Thank you very much!

Interesting game, keep it up thanks

Thanks for makind a video on my game!

thanks broo

so cool

Managed to get the Good Ending.

I liked the cold, oppressive atmosphere you created and I'm fascinated by anything Soviet-related so that's also a plus.

Like others have said, I had a hard time following the story. I'd suggest including more notes to help flesh out what's happening. I just had to guess at the plot and I probably wasn't correct.

You've said you "lightened" up the game but jeez man-- it's still super dark. Too dark to see half the time. Maybe a flashlight or something?

I did enjoy this however, and I think you've shown a lot of potential here. Keep at it and the next one will be even better I'm sure. Cheers.

Thanks man, I'll patch it up as much as I can, story is kinda unhinged (It changed quite few times during development so at the end I just had to connect it somehow) Thank you for suggestions and thank you for playing my game!

what is this?

(1 edit) (+1)

Thats player's job, the 5 x 5 numbers on the left part are matrix and you have to input number sequences, you can find them in vertical columns, horizontal rows or diagonals, in screenshot you provided combination is 1 2 3 4 5, its middle column one, thanks for commenting, I'm here to help

I've finished the game!Nice interesting!

Hi,this game was great I like it and your first game nice! but there was this I fell through the world when I was checking the poster on the board downstairs but still I like the game anyway well done keep it up!

So sorry it happened, most likely some weird rigidbody and wall collision behaviour, I'll tend to fix it in next patch, thanks for playing my game and thanks for kind words

The game reminded me of Funeralopolis: Last Days if it was crossed with a hint of old-school survival horror.

I would recommend getting rid of the robotic voice acting. It's commonly used and absolutely never lands for me. Just kills immersion which would otherwise be preserved well enough with the captions that are already present.

The remaining criticisms I could've had were already addressed by Niven Hedinger.

Thanks for commenting, "Voice acting" was made with "Software Automatic Mouth (SAM)" and you are right, it isn't the best option to use, i just found it as easiest method for my first project. I learned from my mistakes and am already working on next, I hope way better project. Thanks

From haunting visuals to eerie atmosphere with a splash of super darkness, which ruined the immersion for me - not bad.

To start with, I have huge respect towards the developer as most of the things in the game were made by them and the quality of the game is unmatched to any other games with similar story and atmosphere - great points for that. The visuals were breathtaking and really put me in the mood of isolation, desperation and raw, visceral feeling of fear. I was really immersed in the game and somewhat enjoyed the dream sequences.

With that said, I didn't love the game. Some parts really dragged for too long, the note and conversations were too short to grasp the story, leaving me with a wonder of what I've just experienced. This can be good if you try to have the ambiguity in the game, but not always, it is a balance, which is hard to nail. The dream sequences were too dark, the motion blur really didn't suit the game and the load feature makes no sense if the player fails without warning and has to start the game again. I would suggest maybe having an autosave or checkpoint system.

Despite these drawbacks, the game's unique concept and atmosphere made it a memorable experience. It was alright for me and I definitely recommend checking it out. Best of luck with the future projects!

Thank you very much! I am aware of all the things that should be worked on and I intend to fix them, and make game more memorable and unique experience, This is my first ever finished game and I can't say with words how grateful I am for somebody reviewing my game with such effort, thank you again!

Already have idea for the next game, more "articulated", organized and I hope overall better experience for the player. Thank you again for playing and reviewing my game, I just checked your game "Silenced" it was nice

Just gave you a follow and I can't wait for the next game. Again, you've done a masterful job and I wish all the best to you!
